Libertarian Chuck Donovan is 5 by and in the Glidepath.
Here's the latest press release from Libertarian candidate for US Senate Chuck Donovan on the lack of action on DADT. Pretty strong stuff.
For Immediate Release
ATLANTA, GA – September 21, 2010 – Chuck Donovan, Marine Corps veteran and Libertarian candidate for United States Senate from Georgia, issued a statement today during Senator John McCain’s continued filibuster of the repeal of the U.S. military's “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy.
“As a Marine, I swore to support and defend Constitutional protections for all Americans. I am disappointed by fellow veteran, Senator John McCain, who seems more focused on political gamesmanship during his challenging reelection campaign than on the primary question of effectively defending the United States.
"However, I am more disappointed by President Obama’s failure to provide strong leadership on this issue. The Commander-in-Chief has always held the power to take politics out of the military yet he has failed to properly assume control, instead relegating to the courts and the Congress the fates of so many serving our country.
“The personal conduct of our troops is monitored by Commanders in the field, not by politicians playing election year games. Military commanders have a duty to maintain unit readiness, cohesiveness, and morale. They must properly enforce the longstanding Uniform Code of Military Justice. Congress has the duty to monitor and ensure just and equal enforcement of the UCMJ.
“Fellow military pilot Barry Goldwater once said, ‘You don't have to be straight to be in the military; you just have to be able to shoot straight.’ Young men and women join our all-volunteer military today knowing they will likely be called to enter combat. Let us acknowledge their brave service and trust their Commanders to make the best decisions for their units.
“While Senator McCain quibbles about the personal lives of military people, he attempts to hide the fact that America is going broke supporting an overreaching military policy. Year after year, Senators like McCain, Isakson, and Chambliss have stood by while American troops of all kinds are in harms way, unconstitutionally deployed around the world.
“John McCain refuses to focus on a smarter defense and foreign policy.”
Chuck Donovan is leading the way on civil liberties, and fiscal responsibility. You can learn more about his campaign at his website, www.DonovanForSenate. com
